About SWE – Lehigh Valley

There are ten SWE regions in the United States and there are also international sections in approximately 30 countries. In the United States, SWE has over 32,000 individual members distributed among 100 professional sections and 300 collegiate sections.

The Lehigh Valley Section (SWE-LV) is one of thirteen professional sections of Society of Women Engineers within Region E, the Mid-Atlantic Region. This area includes New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Washington D.C. and Virginia. Region E also includes 65 collegiate sections.

SWE-LV draws members from the area encircled by the Lehigh Valley, Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Williamsport, Lewisburg and Reading. 

SWE-LV’s activities support the goals of the international organization through the theme of:

ASPIRE

• Outreach with local K-12 schools and community programs, including volunteer work doing demonstrations, presentations, panel discussions, mentoring, and science fair judging
• Participation in the Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley Holiday Hope Chest Program
• Certifications of Merit in math and science for high school women

ADVANCE

• Scholarship Program for high school senior women who intend to major in engineering at an accredited college or university
• Collaboration, mentoring, and professional development events with local Collegiate SWE Sections at Lafayette College, Lehigh University, Penn State Lehigh Valley/Berks, and Wilkes University.

ACHIEVE

• Professional Development Events
• Networking & Social Events for SWE-LV members
• Annual Plant Tour of local manufacturing or production facilities
• Lehigh Valley Engineering Council participation
• Awards & Recognition of our members by SWE or other professional organizations
